I know it will be more reliable than a Lambretta scooter 60s/70s but a break too often?

my penny worth would be a new PX. The reason for this, choose Start, lubrication system, disc brakes and the reliability of the course.
Which are not more like a spaceship like the classic 60/70 's look look, but is much more reliable. that one or two years, and then an old style. The reason is that they have the key. without automatic lubrication (you may need to manually oil and gasoline), if the old styles are beautiful, but it is quite true as reliable as Lammy mix and it's not fun.

To a bike in perfect working condition, you must ensure that they consider to be a bike last longer if it is oil changes, maintenance, happens after the "X amount" of miles.

Regardless of whether you had then are very reliable. We are very old for tires and oil changes are still working well.
but very well kept ... if you switch this ontop it will take years ...
